An annual, and much loved event as part of River To River, the Bang on a Can Marathon is 8 hours of music (full line up here.) Here’s what the New York Times is excited about (including live streaming for those who can’t make it to the Winter Garden!)
This year’s installment, on Sunday, is scheduled to run eight hours, from 2 p.m to 10 p.m. (they invariably run a bit longer), and Bang on a Can has added a new option: if you can’t make it to Brookfield Place, you can catch the full marathon in a live video webcast at littledoglive.com.
The composers represented on the program include some longtime favorites: the three Bang on a Can composers and the Dutch composer Louis Andriessen all had works at the first marathon and on Sunday’s program as well. Judd Greenstein, Andrew Norman, Caroline Shaw, Bryce Dessner and Paula Matthusen are among the other composers whose work will be heard. Meredith Monk and Jherek Bischoff will perform their own works; other performers include the Bang on a Can All-Stars (naturally), Anonymous 4, Dawn of Midi, Roomful of Teeth, the Great Noise Ensemble and So Percussion.
