VGM Jam Sessions NYC

VGM Jam Sessions NYC is a grassroots community that seeks to partner with NYC venues to provide an environment where people from all walks of life can express their love for music, videogames and the intersection of two by performing, arranging, and listening to classic and contemporary Video Game Music (VGM) together. Our monthly event at OS NYC features an all-VGM performance of top-call nyc musicians followed by an open Jam Session. Everyone from students and public school educators to top call, Grammy-winning musicians regularly participate in our monthly jam session.

Join us at Klavierhaus on Saturday, July 5, for an enchanting evening with Italian pianist Simona Premazzi. Described as “a wickedly clever soloist with a very original viewpoint” by DownBeat Magazine, Simona Premazzi is a fearless modernist composer and improviser whose deeply lyrical style resonates with audiences worldwide. Originally from a small town near Milan, Premazzi began playing piano at age eight and a half, later earning dual master’s degrees in classical and jazz music. Since moving to New York in 2004, she has captivated audiences at iconic venues such as the Village Vanguard and jazz festivals across the globe.

Come enjoy a short one-person, uplifting and comedic play followed by a conversation with 24/6: A Jewish Theater Company's Artistic Director. During COVID, the effects of social isolation have been acutely felt by senior citizens and those who are housebound. In response, 24/6: A Jewish Theater Company has commissioned a diverse group of over 30 playwrights to write 10 minute plays which are performed live over the telephone to seniors and those who are housebound. Each Monday at noon a different play will be performed via DOROT's University Without Walls.

Experience the thunderous rhythms of the ancestral Japanese Taiko drums and the magical sounds of the bamboo flutes. Hear the 150 lb. Taiko drums give thunderous voice to traditional and new compositions. Roughly translated, Taiko means big drums and that’s exactly what brings. Big Drums, powerful rhythms, and electrifying, room-thumping energy. This exciting group draws from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance to create a new sound using a variety of traditional instruments and creating a highly visual performance.

Join us in Uptown Manhattan’s incredible ambient outdoor spaces to soak up every moment of summer. Bring your own picnic (and blanket and chairs and bug spray, etc.) to enjoy during the concerts. *For all ages* Summer concerts can be subject to change so be sure to follow our social media accounts and sign up for our mailing list below for updates! All of our outdoor concert venues are “Leave No Trace” so please be sure to clean up what you brought in. Our summer concerts are free and open to the public. Donations to support our performances are gratefully accepted.

There will be a reading of the play TOUCH - an inter-generational comedy about love, loss, and finding surprising new relationships. After the reading there will be a discussion of the themes of the play including - moving on after the loss a long term partner, dating later in life, relationships with adult children, living on a fixed income, etc.

Joined by artists from across America, Japan, and Taiwan, join Obremski/Works at these Arts on Site performances to support Asian and Pacific Islander artistry, representation, and advocacy. The program will host a company premiere of Founder Jesse Obremski's "Opportunity" and two world premiere solos by Obremski. The program will share space with the 2025 VOYAGER Fellow Michaella Ho to present their work in support of their 0-1b visa portfolio and application. Additionally, this program will host our first-ever commissioned choreographer, international artist Jie-Hung Connie Shiau, to create a world premiere for the company.
