The Sun Seekers is an ongoing body of work to promote reconnection with the physical realm as a form of healing. Amy and Jennifer Khoshbin, a sister duo in the arts collective House of Trees in collaboration with Wildcat Ebony Brown are presenting a public program meant to dissolve the heavy weight surrounding us during the pandemic into a greater awareness of the body and how to sustain our energy to keep fighting for justice.
This public program will incorporate the audience into the Sun Seekers sci-fi narrative, which is an alternate world maintaining a direct correlation to our experience of the pandemic and the re-emergence and connection with the natural environment and each other. Visitors will be inducted to the Sun Seekers community through somatic rituals and be instructed on how to make their own healing reflective objects to take with them using provided materials and guidance from the artists.

Open Studios with Arts Center Residency Artists

Visit LMCC's 2021 Arts Center artists-in-residence in their studios at The Arts Center, where they will share current works-in-progress, offer insights on their creative practice and engaging activities for attendees. Jazz at Lincoln Center swings into summer at The Take Care Series on Governors Island with a trio of diverse and intimate performances.
This month, multi-instrumentalist Kely Pinheiro will be joined by guitarist Nathan Dies.

Amy Khoshbin is an Iranian-American Brooklyn-based artist, activist, and educator. Her practice, as an artist and pedagogue, builds bridges between disparate communities to counteract fear with a collective sense of empowered radical acceptance. She pushes the formal and conceptual boundaries of artmaking to foster progressive social change through performance, social practice, video, collage, rap music, installation, teaching and writing. She has shown at venues such as The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Times Square Arts, Artpace, The High Line, Socrates Sculpture Park, VOLTA Art Fair, Leila Heller Gallery, Arsenal Contemporary, National Sawdust, BRIC Arts, and festivals such as River to River and South by Southwest. She has received residencies at spaces such as The Watermill Center, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Project for Empty Space, Anderson Ranch, and Banff Centre for the Arts. She has received a Franklin Furnace Fund, Rema Hort Mann Artist Community Engagement Grant, NYFA City Artist Grant and others. Khoshbin received an MA from New York University in Tisch School of the Arts and a BA in Film and Media Studies at University of Texas at Austin. She has collaborated with Laurie Anderson, Karen Finley, House of Trees, Tina Barney, and poets Anne Carson and Bob Currie among others.
Jennifer Khoshbin is a San Antonio artist and curator. Her work often aims to present a detail of the story of human diversity and community. The strength of the work comes from great attention to pictorial detail, seen in her drawings, murals and installations. The guiding inspiration in all Jennifer’s artwork is twofold: the public self and the private self. Her public works are created with a respect to the specific history of the site and its communities of settlers and wayfarers, past and present, human, plant or animal. Her private works are intended to explore personal identities through storytelling. Whether creating intricate personal drawings or large-scale public art pieces, there exists a simple phrase, idea or story worth telling. Jennifer has exhibited works in galleries and museums throughout the US: including Southwest School of Art and Craft; Blue Star Contemporary: Artpace, TX; Watermill Center, NY; Bellevue Arts Museum, WA; Tinlark Gallery, LA; Times Square, NYC, Kimmel Gallery, NYU, among many others. Her works have been published and written about widely and have appeared in Newsweek, Readymade, House Beautiful, Glamour, and in numerous art and craft books.
Wildcat Ebony Brown is a Brooklyn-based artist with an experimental process, her work is vibrant and exhilarating through cross discipline of mixed media, installation and performance art, painting and collage. Originally from Tulsa Oklahoma and raised in southern Maryland, she is self-taught, possesses innate artistic ability, and creates via contemplative response. Through authentically embracing her myriad incarnations, she willfully utilizes a multitude of acquired skill sets to navigate, curate and occupy various cultural spaces A founding member and key collaborator of the Wide Awakes, she conceptualizes and curates site specific activations. Understanding how artist led activism empowers and liberates both communities and individuals enables her to produce safe, unconventional forms of civic engagement rooted in diversity, inclusion and collective joy.
Kely Pinheiro is a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and arranger based in Boston. She moved to the U.S. after receiving a full-tuition scholarship from Berklee College of Music. She is a classically trained cellist but grew up in a music-loving family that encouraged her to explore a variety of musical styles. She has performed in concert since she was 12 years old, participating in projects and festivals in Brazil and abroad. Her first professional tour was in 2017, playing Brazilian music throughout Germany with Rio's popular string orchestra Camerata Laranjeiras. Her most recent tour was in the fall of 2018 backing up Norwegian singer Astrid S, which led Pinheiro to be noticed by Norway's largest newspaper, Aftenposten. Pinheiro majors in performance and contemporary writing and production at Berklee, collaborating with multiple artists and working on a solo show featuring her cello and voice.
