Lauren Slone is an arts leader, educator, and dancer with nearly two decades of cross-sectoral experience in arts philanthropy. Currently, she is LMCC’s Grantmaking Consultant, overseeing Manhattan Arts Grants programs. She is also the Founder & Principal of Slone Arts Advisory, a national consulting firm that supports artists and organizations in strategic program development, systems implementation, and capacity growth. In her career to date, she has helped distribute more than $50M dollars in direct support to artists.
She earned an MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Florida State University School of Dance where she was the first Mellon Foundation Arts Administration Fellow at Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) and a Ballet Pedagogy Fellow. She’s received residencies for her creative work through PS122, the Lillian E. Smith Center, MANCC as Embedded Writer-in-Residence, and Jacob’s Pillow Lab with choreographer Joanna Kotze. She has guest lectured at American University, CalArts, Carnegie Mellon University, Florida State University, Parsons’ School of Fashion/Design Sustainability, Sarah Lawrence College, and The Ohio State University, among others. Her administrative research has been published and presented through DanceNYC, PEAK Grantmaking, Grantmakers in the Arts, National Assembly of State Arts Agencies’ Leadership Institute, Gibney Dance, and Americans for the Arts.
Lauren is passionate about championing artists’ dreams and building the infrastructure that makes them real. Outside of work, she loves to travel, collect tattoos, and perpetuate her lifelong, daily dance class habit.
