Evelyn Brown (A Diary)
May 19 - June 4, 2023 at 8:00 PM
La MaMa, 66 East 4th Street (between Bowery & 2nd Avenue) New York, NY 10003

Evelyn Brown (A Diary), the only work playwright María Irene Fornés took entirely from a found object, tells the story of a housekeeper who lived and labored in rural New Hampshire in the early 1900s. Using the short entries as inspiration, Fornés shaped the diary into a piece of dance-theater that explores the physical cost of women’s domestic labor and the surprising possibilities for mental and spiritual escape. This first-ever revival of Evelyn Brown (A Diary), unearths a lost work by the celebrated playwright María Irene Fornés (1930–2018). Directed by Alice Reagan, the production will feature scenic designs by Donald Eastman who designed the original 1980 production.
