We are thrilled to share that The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) has been awarded an AMP Grant from The New York Climate Exchange!

This grant will support our "Climate Justice & Arts Symposium Planning and Design" project, a major initiative for LMCC and an exciting step forward in our commitment to climate justice.

The AMP (Amplifying Meaningful Partnerships) Grant program, launched by The New York Climate Exchange in Fall 2023, aims to support community-based projects that align with their mission of implementing innovative climate solutions. The pilot program prioritizes projects that encourage collaboration, address environmental justice, increase climate engagement and literacy, and have a measurable and sustainable impact.

Our project, supported by this grant, focuses on the planning process for the Fall 2024 Climate Justice & Arts Symposium at The Arts Center at Governors Island. This 200-person symposium will bring together New York-based artists who integrate scientific research into their creative practices, along with activists, scientists, and community organizers. The goal is to foster crucial conversations about climate justice and to create a collaborative platform for sharing ideas and solutions.

We are in incredible company with the other four grant recipients, each making significant strides in their communities:

  • The Waterfront Alliance with their "Career Pathways for Emerging Climate Leaders" program.
  • Educational Alliance and the Climate Museum with "Museum Learning for Climate Change, Climate Justice, and Climate Action."
  • Earth Matter NY with "University Field Days at Earth Matter."
  • Solar One with the "Solar Power Rainwater Irrigation Project."

Together, these projects reflect a diverse range of approaches to tackling climate issues and enhancing climate education in New York City.

Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey.
