Arts Center Residency

About the Arts Center Residency

The Arts Center at Governors Island is home to a year-round residency program that serves as an incubator for research and interdisciplinary exchange. The Arts Center Residency lets artists focus on experimentation, ongoing development, and dialogue with fellow residents.

Participating artists work across artistic disciplines – visual, performing, and literary – and engage the social, environmental, and civic dimensions of our changing world.  This and all of LMCC’s residency programs are a core part of our commitment to ensuring artists have free, collaborative space for creative development and production.

The 2026 Arts Center Residency fosters creative exploration for projects at the intersection of art and climate. The eight-month studio-based residency provides artists with individual work space, a stipend for materials, and access to two rehearsal studio facilities. Residents engage in ongoing dialogue with one another while also participating in Open Studios, Climate Week, and other LMCC programming.

The 2026 cohort was selected through a closed nomination process. To learn about our selection process and nominators, see more information below.
