On Saturday, September 27, enjoy a full day of Climate Week programs at The Arts Center at Governors Island! Presented in partnership with Stony Brook University, the day will include Open Studios with current Artists-in-Residence, performances and presentations by Stony Brook Faculty, and a reception to follow.

The 2025 Arts Center Residency  program is dedicated to artists addressing climate change, environmental sustainability, and resilience through their creative practices.

A 20-minute Reading from a current writing project that reflects on fertility challenges, kinship with the more-than-human, and solidarity with the earth amid environmental degradation.

Destinie Adélakun | Sonic Wave: A Calabash of Existence

A 20-minute sonic performance that reimagines the Indian jaal tarang through a Yoruba lens, weaving porcelain bowls and calabash vessels into a meditation on water, memory, and ocean health. 

Jaleeca Yancy | Mitochondrial relics (mtRelic)

A 20-minute performance that centers on the migration of relics carried from sea to space, spanning past, present, and future.

Moderated by LMCC Director of Artist Programs, Will Penrose, this panel brings together ecologist and MacArthur Fellow Carl Safina, Endowed Research Chair for Nature and Humanity at Stony Brook University, cross-disciplinary scholar David Taylor, Associate Professor & Director, Sustainability Studies Program, Stony Brook University, and current LMCC Arts Center Artists-in-Residence Libby Mislan, Laura Chipley and Samara Smith.
