In this week’s Gift, we share a range of efforts from within Chinatown and extending across Asian American communities in the spirit of solidarity, art, and activism.

Resist Recycle Regenerate
LMCC Grantee The W.O.W. Project continues the third year of their project, Resist Recycle Regenerate, a project drawing upon the collective past of exclusion and discriminatory policies to reclaim history, cultural heritage, pride, and solidarity. RRR Fellows will tell stories of personal and collective through web-based projects explore and reimagine what it means to be part of a diaspora in a time of isolation.
LMCC supported Resist Recycle Regenerate in its first year and currently funds the W.O.W. Project’s Chinatown mural project.
Think!Chinatown
The Art of Storytelling in Chinatown: Behind the Stories
LMCC Grantee Think!Chinatown is a network of volunteers across professional backgrounds who love Chinatown. Collectively, they design projects connecting Chinatown organizations to resources within partner and outside of the local community (we particularly love Think!Chinatown’s Chinatown Arts Week!)
This Saturday, Think!Chinatown presents The Art of Storytelling in Chinatown: Behind the Stories, a virtual screening of animated shorts celebrating the lives of the everyday people who call Chinatown home.
Featuring artists Yao Xiao and John Lee, featured storytellers Margaret Yuen and Jan Lee for a Q&A session moderated by Rochelle Kwan, and Cindy Trinh showing photos from her book, No Boundaries,” a collection of Chinatown images from NY and the world over.

WE ARE NOT COVID / Stop Discriminasian
In response to xenophobia and discrimination targeted at Asian Americans, individuals of Asian descent and those perceived to be of Asian descent, LMCC Workspace 2017-2018 resident Kenneth Tam created WE ARE NOT COVID, a document where people can anonymously record incidents.
Over the past months, Tam's efforts have expanded to Stop Discriminasian, a coalition of arts workers focused on activism and raising awareness around the amplified violence towards diasporic Asians during COVID-19. Visit stopdiscriminasian.org to submit an incident, find resources on bystander intervention, and learn to become an ally.
