Join ECHO EXHIBIT artists Asiya Wadud and Shannon Finnegan for Children’s Poetry Workshops

Large vinyls of a poem installed in building windows and doors. The poem "Centrifugal" reads: "When I walk around Seaport / I think of the Nile / its Feluccas folding / water like origami // Time undulates like a tidal wave / The months ebb and flow // In Madison Sq Park the sun / kisses people's bodies // I hear drumming / Some are singing / the city back to life / August beckons / I can smell Egypt / on the phone // the men cooking corn / on the river banks // I am almost home".

Asiya Wadud and Shannon Finnegan will lead workshops related to ECHO EXHIBIT, which was presented as part of River To River 2020: Four Voices. The workshops are co-presented by LMCC, the Seaport District and The Howard Hughes Corporation.

ECHO EXHIBIT Children’s Poetry Workshop

January 26, 3pm
A collage is created when many different pieces come together to make something new. Collages rearrange old ways of seeing and invite us to look at something with fresh eyes. Drawing from a selection of the ECHO EXHIBIT poems as well as our own collective observations, children in this workshop will have a chance to read and write their own collage poems. Writers will work with the participants in small groups and will guide the children in creating their own work from the day.

The workshop, for children ages 8-10, will take place on January 26 at 3pm and will last approximately 45 minutes.

This event will be hosted online via Zoom. The Zoom app will be required on your desktop or mobile devices to view, listen, and chat with participants during the event. You will receive the link for 24 hours before the event.

Alt-Text as Poetry Children's Workshop

January 27, 3pm

Alt-Text as Poetry is a workshop about how we share and talk about artworks. Drawing on techniques for creating access for blind and low-vision people, we’ll practice putting to words what we see and feel when looking at art. What do we notice first? Did we discover after looking for longer? What is the mood of the artwork? What does it remind us of?

The workshop, for children ages 8-10, will take place on January 27 at 3pm and will last approximately 45 minutes.

This event will be hosted online via Zoom. The Zoom app will be required on your desktop or mobile devices to view, listen, and chat with participants during the event. You will receive the link for 24 hours before the event.
