COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the arts and culture sector. It is projected that museums across the nation are collectively losing at least $33 million a day because of closures. The American Alliance of Museums estimates that 30 percent of museums—mostly in small and rural communities—will not be able to re-open without swift financial support from the government. Imagine what the United States would look like without the arts.

We join the American Alliance of Museums in urging that Congress direct $4 billion in federal funds to help buoy nonprofit museums during the COVID-19 pandemic. Museums are foundational not only to national culture but to the economy, as they collectively generate $12 billion in taxes annually and provide 726,000 jobs.

Support the arts by taking the actions below:

  1. Show your support for the arts on social media by using the hashtag #CongressSaveCulture
  2. Sign the petition created by The Met urging Congress to provide relief for arts and cultural institutions
  3. Contact your legislators and urge them to support $4 billion in economic relief for arts and culture. Use AAM's letter as your guide. ⁣⁣⁣
