FACES OF HARLEM

FACES OF HARLEM, curated by Sade Boyewa El and Kate Sterlin, is a multi-site, outdoor photography exhibition celebrating the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance with one hundred Harlem portraits. Ten photographers have been invited to present new work throughout four locations: Freedom Allah, Jean Andre Antoine, Sade Boyewa El, Tyrell Holland, Ariella Imena, Abigail Montes, Sierra Odessa, Oluwaseye Olusa, Tony King Redman, and Kate Sterlin. FACES OF HARLEM seeks to act as a cultural mediator, inspiring meaningful conversations and fostering connection through public art, oral history, and photography. The exhibition showcases the beauty, creativity, resilience, and magic of Harlem as it fights to preserve its legacy in the midst of rapid gentrification.

French, German & Italian Song Masterclass with Thomas Muraco

Thomas Muraco, pianist, conductor, and coach, will explore the fusion of word and tone through the diverse French, German, and Italian art song repertoire. Muraco is a celebrated coach who cites the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein as one of his mentors. Muraco is on faculty at the Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Muraco teaches and judges vocal competitions around the globe.
American Songbook Masterclass with Neil Semer

Internationally recognized for his work with classical, Broadway, and contemporary style singers, voice teacher, Neil Semer, offers his extensive insight guiding singers through an enjoyable afternoon of music from the American Songbook. Semer has a summer training institute for singers in both Germany and Canada. In addition to the Neil Semer Training Institutes abroad and maintaining a vibrant voice studio in New York, he also teaches in London, Paris, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam.
Latin American & Spanish Language Song Masterclass

Spanish Language Art Song with Maya Hoover & José Meléndez,
Dr. Maya Hoover, (mezzo) and pianist and vocal coach, José Meléndez explore the vast array of songs and poetry of Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Peru, Uruguay and other Latin American and European countries. Dr. Hoover is the author of A Guide the Latin American Art Song and a professor on the voice faculty at the University of Hawaii, and Meléndez is a faculty member at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

The Harlem Project brings together young people from Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx to create and perform alongside the professional artists of Matthew Westerby Company every summer! This year, we will present original dance work for performance with a backdrop of commissioned visual art from artist Marc Boone in the lovely Amphitheatre in Marcus Garvey Park (Harlem). Japan Fun Fest

Japan Fun Fest celebrates Japan and NYC with an all-day Japanese cultural festival, featuring traditional performing arts and fun cultural activities for the whole family! Enjoy performances by JFDINY’s own Minbuza (Japanese Folk Dance), Samurai Sword Soul (Traditional Sword Fighting), and Taiko Masala (Taiko Drumming). While in our activities area, experienced teachers will lead children in a variety of fun Japanese arts and crafts such as origami, calligraphy, kendama, and kimono dressing. The finale of Japan Fun Fest will be the Bon Odori, a traditional Japanese Summer event where everyone joins in and dances together! Come to Japan Fun Fest and let’s celebrate NYC!
