Works on Water 2025 Triennial Exhibition in Hyperallergic
The Works on Water 2025 Triennial Exhibition, currently on view at LMCC's Arts Center at Governors Island is one of Hyperallergic's ''Five New York City Art Shows to See Right Now.''
Works on Water's "willingness to revisit projects indicates that it values art for its depth and persistence rather than how it sets or fits trends.”
- Louis Bury, Hyperallergic
"The show’s third iteration drifts between deep time, environmental urgency, and immersive aesthetic gestures" writes Louis Bury in his recent review of the exhibition. "It’s not surprising that Water Art, as WoW calls it, would take the long view of things, given the philosophical depth associated with its subject. But this triennial’s design emphasizes contemplative aesthetic gestures over the nitty-gritty logistics of its community projects... However counterintuitive emphasizing aesthetics over logistics might sound, it constitutes an effective solution to the problem of how to translate public and social practice art into a gallery setting."
The Works on Water 2025 Triennial Exhibition is presented by LMCC in partnership with Works on Water. Curated by Emily Blumenfeld and Kendal Henry, the exhibition features artwork by Nora Almeida/iki nakagawa, Frank Bloem, Monica Jahan Bose, Donald Hài Phú Daedalus, Jeremy Dennis, Sherese Francis, Jana Harper, Perrin Ireland, Art Jones, Marie Lorenz, sTo Len, Stacy Levy, Mare Liberum, Mary Mattingly, Wes Modes, Lize Mogel, Eve Mosher, Nancy Nowacek, Jean Shin, Sarah Cameron Sunde, Sunk Shore (Carolyn Hall and Clarinda Mac Low), Elizabeth Velazquez, and Marina Zurkow.
