Open Studios is part of a full weekend of Climate Week programs at The Arts Center at Governors Island! Join us for a pep rally for New York Harbor presented with New York Climate Exchange, an end of Climate Week Celebration with Stony Brook University, and more.

About The Arts Center Residency

The 2026 Arts Center Residency cohort includes 18 artists, one On-Site Assistant, and, for the first time, two Scholars-in-Residence from Stony Brook University and an Organization-in-Residence: Seaweed City.

Nicole Cooper, Mapping Our Climate Emotions
Our emotions about climate are real, valid, and worth sharing. “Mapping Our Climate Emotions” is an interactive studio installation inviting you to explore and express how you’re feeling about our changing planet. Using a climate emotions wheel, colored notecards, and string, you’ll add your feelings to a growing collective map—creating a living portrait of our shared climate experience. No art experience necessary. Just bring your feelings and see where they land.

Garrett Allen, temperature theater 01
temperature theater 01 is a performance experiment in heat, pressure, duration, and cause and effect. A temperature becomes a psychophysical agent, an environment, a condition. The work considers the body as a site of climate, coping, and consequence. How do we experience change? How does how we handle change change what we experience?

Tanika Williams, Black Ecologies v. 2: The Field Trip
Black Ecologies v. 2: The Field Trip: dream, design, and build speculative climate futures with Black Interactive. This day-long event features guided meditation and design-build workshops, including collaging, zine-making, AR animation, and architectural modeling

Sari Nordman, Anxiety Boutique Activation Dance
This activation invites viewers to imagine climate extremes and learn more about the story behind the Anxiety Boutique.

About Anh Vo Work-in-Progress Performance

A sign, a signal, a delivery, a deliverance brings Ca Trù, a rare northern Vietnamese chamber music tradition, into dialogue with possession rituals. Drawing from Ca Trù’s austere, trance-like soundscape and its precise rhythmic structures, the project explores quieter states of losing oneself. Here, possession emerges through discipline and devotion rather than abandon and catharsis, where control itself becomes the condition for being overtaken.

Anh Vo

Based in Brooklyn and Hanoi, Anh Vo is a Vietnamese choreographer and writer working in the expanded field of performance. Their practice mobilizes the naked body in its variations to make explicit the entanglement of power and apparitional forces that cut across flesh. Their work emerges from the unlikely lineage convergences between Downtown New York experimental performance, Hanoi performance art, and Vietnamese folk ritual practices.
