Pigeonwing Dance

The Carpet Series
Aug 3, 2025 – Aug 21, 2025
Washington Square Park, Washington Square Park (Garibaldi Plaza, east side), New York, New York, 10012

Pigeonwing Dance brings unexpected moments of beauty into NYC public spaces with The Carpet Series, featuring professional dance performed on an 8x10 Persian carpet. Now in its sixth edition, this annual public art project features choreography by Guggenheim Fellow Gabrielle Lamb. Each free performance includes four 12-15 minute sets. The informal, accessible format consistently draws children and families, creating spontaneous community engagement as young audiences often move along with the dancers. Dance Magazine observed: "the geometric patterns of the Persian rug echo and amplify Lamb's idiosyncratic movement vocabulary, which is both intensely intricate and unusually syncopated.”
