Founded in 1915 by Joseph and Rose Durst, The Durst Organization is now headed by their grandsons, Douglas and Jonathan (Jody) Durst. Today, the company owns and manages more than 13 million square feet of Class A Manhattan office and retail space and 1,950 residential units with 3,400 in development. Since its founding, The Durst Organization has been a pioneer committed to innovation in construction and design. The Durst Organization began building on the East Side of Manhattan in the 1950s, and within a decade, had successfully transformed Third Avenue into a thriving commercial business district.

In the late 1960s, the company turned its attention to Sixth Avenue, helping to establish the Avenue of the Americas as Manhattan’s premier corporate thoroughfare. In the 1990s, the organization’s current leadership built 4 Times Square, the first “green” skyscraper constructed in the United States and a catalyst for the revitalization of Times Square. Following the completion of 4 Times Square in 1999, The Durst Organization built two large-scale LEED Gold residential rental buildings – HELENA 57 WEST and The Epic. In 2010, The Durst Organization completed the most environmentally advanced skyscraper in the United States, the LEED Platinum Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park. In May 2011, The Durst Organization became an owner of One World Trade Center, partnering with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The Durst Organization is responsible for leasing, marketing, and management of the 3.1 million square foot office tower. In 2016, The Durst Organization completed VIA 57 WEST, the anchor of the residential superblock, 57 WEST, between 11th and 12th Avenues and 57th and 58th Streets. With the completion of HELENA 57 WEST in 2005 and the upcoming completion of FRANK 57 WEST, the superblock will transform what was vacant lots and blighted industrial sites into one of Manhattan’s most architecturally significant and desirable residential neighborhoods. The Durst Organization also built EŌS, a mixed-use retail, office and rental tower with 122,000 square feet of commercial space and 375 rental units in NoMad. Also in 2016, 1133 Avenue of Americas and 1155 Avenue of the Americas became the first two projects in New York City to achieve certification under the new LEED v4 EBOM standard. In addition to real estate activities, The Durst Organization is a founder of McEnroe Organic Farm, one of the largest organic farms in New York State.
