“Jowers and her team of contributing dance writers, all experts in the field, don’t present themselves as gatekeepers but rather as professionals ‘devoted to creating and nurturing dance enthusiasts people passionate about dance, its artists, and the world we share.'” – ArtsJournal, Sept. 28, 2014, Lynne Conner
The Dance Enthusiast (TDE) is the web-based communications platform of non-profit organization, The Moving Arts Projects, whose mission is to captivate, educate, and grow dance audiences. TDE has grown from a single-writer-based site to a trusted New York City dance news site with multiple content creators. TDE’s project, Dance Up Close, a journalistic video, brings web audiences into an intimate relationship with the behind-the-scenes dance life in New York. Programs include Enthusiastic Events!, an offline audience engagement and dance literacy program with support from the Mertz Gilmore Foundation. This program addresses the problem of shifting attention spans, differing knowledge bases, and available free time of dance audiences. In 2013, TDE was the recipient of an Engaging Dance Audience Grant administered by Dance/USA, through the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
