Karen Weiser is a poet as well as a scholar of early American literature. Her first book of poetry, To Light Out, was published in 2010 by Ugly Duckling Presse. In it she reconsiders the mystical as human and environmental, as a kind of embodiment (she was pregnant while writing it). Her second book, tentatively titled Or, The Ambiguities, is due out in the Fall of 2015, also from Ugly Duckling Presse. It contains poems in conversation with various books by Herman Melville. She was recently awarded a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation residency and has received a FACEOUT Award from the Jerome Foundation and a Fund for Poetry Award. While at LMCC she is working on the libretto for an opera about the first female composer, Kassia, who lived during the 9th century. Learn more about the opera here.
