Jillian McDonald is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist born in Edmonton, Canada. McDonald creates films, performances, drawings and new media artworks inspired by popular film genres like horror and romance. Her solo exhibitions include Valley of the Deer, Esker Foundation Gallery, Canada (2013); Electric Speed, Marshall McLuhan Commission, New Forms Society and Surrey Art Gallery, Canada (2012) and Alone Together in the Dark, Arizona State University Museum, Tempe, AZ (2009). Her performances include Undead in the Night, Lilith Performance Studio, Malmö, Sweden (2009) and Zombies in Condoland, Nuit Blanche, Toronto, Canada (2008). Her residencies include the Glenfiddich International Artists Residency, Dufftown, Scotland (2012); The Headlands Center for the Arts Residency, Marin County, CA (2008) and LMCC’s World Views Residency, New York, NY (2006, 2007). She is the recipient of the Film and Video Production Grant, Canada Council for the Arts, Canada (2011). McDonald was a Video Fellow at the New York Foundation for the Arts, New York, NY (2008). She received a B.F.A. from the University of Manitoba, School of Art, Canada and an M.F.A. from Hunter College, CUNY.
