Jessica Ann Peavy is a New York-based and Ohio-born video and performance artist whose work focuses on the art of storytelling and perceptions of truth. Her solo performances and exhibitions include Utterance and Parables, Agape Enterprise, Brooklyn, NY (2013); Emergency Contraception, Collette Blanchard Gallery, New York City (2010) and She Knows Something You Don’t Know, Momenta Art, Brooklyn, NY (2010). Her group performances include Cinema Remixed and Reloaded: Black Women Artists and the Moving Image Since 1970, Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, Texas; Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, Atlanta, Georgia (2007, 2008) and Shame, The Kitchen, New York City (2011). Her awards include the New York State Council of the Arts, Individual Artist Film and New Media Grant (2009); the Jerome Foundation Travel and Study Grant (2009) and the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art Grant (2007). Peavy has been an artist-in-residence at LMCC’s Workspace (2011-2012), Harvestworks (2008) and Smack Mellon (2007). She received a B.F.A. from New York University and an M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts.
