Seattle-based artist Gretchen Bennett presented her third solo exhibition, Community World Theater, at Howard House in Seattle in January 2010. She was awarded residencies with The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists, Reykjavik, in 2008 and 2009, and received the Grant for Artist Projects (GAP) from the Artist Trust in 2009. In 2004 she participated in the Artist in the Marketplace Program at the Bronx Musuem of the Arts’. Her work is currently featured in the exhibition Kurt as well as the video gallery at the Seattle Art Museum. Bennett has been a guest lecturer at Seattle University, Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts, and Cornish College of the Arts. She received an MFA from Rutgers Univeristy, Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2001.

During her residency on Governors Island, Gretchen will focus on her project, Fringe Sites, exploring artificial light sources, interstitial sites, fractured space and how atmospheric shifts affect response and output, all through the filter of the hybrid landscapes and multiple histories of the island.
