“Composition to do Battle with War and Injustice”… “music performed clearly evoked conflict and anguish…gracefully played…a fiery and emotive performance..” – New York Times, March 4, 2008, Vivien Schweitzer
Founded in 2001, Ensemble Pi is a group of seasoned chamber musicians who perform a variety of 20th and 21st century music. Ensemble Pi is committed to performing works by contemporary composers – living or undiscovered – that explore themes of peace and social justice. Since 2006, the Ensemble has presented The Peace Project, an annual multi-media event making space for dialogue between ideas and music. Their concerts have included commissions from American composers Nkeiru Okoye, Frederic Rzewski, Laura Kaminsky, Kristin Norderval, and Karim Al-Zand, as well as performances of Penderecki’s Sextet and works by Peter Ablinger, Benjamin Britten, and George Crumb.
