It’s the best thing in Washington Heights, it’s what’s keeping us here.” – Manhattan Times, Dec. 10, 2014, Sipporah Tracer

Dance Project of Washington Heights (DPWH) is a donation-based dance program for children. DPWH’s mission is to teach a variety of forms of dance to children irrespective of their ability to pay class fees. DPWH creates an atmosphere that both celebrates the students’ diversity and protects them from the economic disparities that dictate which children will gain access to the arts – specifically dance – and those who will not. Learning to dance, including ballet, tap, hip hop and creative movement, requires students to exercise discipline, hone their listening skills, practice poise, express themselves, and work together. Ultimately, the classes teach children how to be better learners in school and in life.
