Christine Toy Johnson is a playwright, actor, director, and advocate for inclusion born and raised in the suburbs of New York City. As a sixth generation Asian American woman, her own struggle with feeling excluded from the American landscape of storytelling drives her to keep exploring her place in the world and as an artist.

Writing new works for theatre, film, and television that aim to shift the paradigm and hold an inclusive mirror up to society has given Johnson the opportunity to create social change through the arts through enlightening and entertaining storytelling. Her performances include: The Music Man, Grease! Chu Chem; Off Broadway: Merrily We Roll Along (cast album), Balancing Act (cast album).

Johnson was honored by the JACL in 2010 for “exemplary leadership and dedication”; the Asian American Arts Alliance in 2012 for “Outstanding Service in the Arts”; and received the 2013 Rosetta LeNoire Award from Actors’ Equity Association for “outstanding artistic contributions to the universality of the human experience in the American theatre”.
