Dyckman Farmhouse Museum Alliance

Unspoken Voices: Honoring the Legacy of Black America

Unspoken Voices is an exhibition aimed at honoring the tremendous contributions of Black Americans to the founding and growth of the United States and acknowledging that their early contributions were through forced labor. Local artists Rachel Sydlowski and Marquise Foster; Gwendolyn Black and Ann Sealy; and Sheila Prevost have created works that bring life to the enslaved people who lived, worked and cultivated the farmland in the rural area of Upper Manhattan.

The exhibition will be open in limited capacity by appointment only due to Covid-19 restrictions on the small space. Advance registration will be required.

Sculpture Workshops 2020

Sculptors Alliance is offering courses held live online for sculptors who want to hone their skills or improve their professional practice, and for non-sculptors who want to work in 3D. Courses are for adults (18 years and up) and range from beginner to advanced. Our Teaching Artists offer demos, lectures, critiques, Q&A, at-home assignments and more, to guide, challenge and help students advance their work.

Courses are given in English, with a total of 12 hours of live online instructed time, and run between October 26th - December 18th.

andPlay, a violin/viola duo based in New York City, focuses on commissioning new works and performing lesser-known contemporary ones. andPlay is especially passionate about the collaborative experience of creating new music and shares this process with the wider community through their free series, "andPlay (in) conversation." The third event in their 2020 series features composer/performer Lester St. Louis who will be creating a new work for andPlay in Fall 2021. This discussion will included pre-recorded performances by andPlay and St. Louis, and a discussion of the use of improvisation in contemporary notated music. This event will be livestreamed for the public.
