Due to the severe weather expected for Saturday\, September 26\, this event has been postponed to Saturday\, October 17 \n  \nA fun\, family-friendly day on Governors Island. \nJoin LMCC\, The New York Climate Exchange\, Stony Brook University\, and hundreds of New Yorkers on Governors Island for Homecoming: For the Harbor! \nFree and Open to All Ages | NEW DATE! October 17\, 1pm-5pm | RSVP and let us know you’re attending! \nTogether with NYC public officials\, artists\, musicians\, and more\, we’ll cheer for our city’s waterways with the full spirit of a Pep Rally— marching band\, cheerleaders\, a parade\, art-making workshops\, plus climate scientists and environmental advocates.  \nVisit the Climate-Action Tailgate Fair! Featuring tables from environmental organizations and creative activities to educate and entertain children and adults alike. \nBe part of the Pep Rally Parade! Come dressed in your best NY Harbor costume and be part of our people’s parade with a marching band\, mascots\, cheerleaders and more! \nEveryone’s invited to the “Postgame” Party! The afternoon will culminate with food and fun outside of LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island. \nHomecoming invites us to combine climate action with pom-poms—proof that hope is overflowing and the water that connects our cities\, our communities\, deserves a cheering section! Bring your friends\, bring your family\, and catch the ferry!  \n  \n\nHomecoming: For The Harbor is the latest public art project in a series designed by Minneapolis-based artist Amanda Lovelee to use the joyful language of pep rallies\, parades\, and collective celebration to strengthen our relationship with the natural world.  \nThe event combines the efforts and support of multiple artists and participating organizations. Participating artists\, speakers and partners for the NEW October 17 date will be announced soon! \n  \n\nAmanda Lovelee is a civic and environmental artist whose work bridges science\, civics\, and systems change. She creates large-scale public art projects that use joy to spark dialogue about our shared future. Lovelee collaborates across sectors—including with scientists\, planners\, and government agencies. Currently a U.S. Cultural Policy Fellow at Stanford University\, focused on art and culture in climate change work. She is also co-founder of CAIR Lab\, supporting artists in government. With Open Studios\, LMCC invites the public into the workspaces and creative processes of the 2026 Cohort of Arts Center Residents. These open house events are free and welcoming\, informal\, and accessible to all ages. Artist activations will take place throughout the day — scroll down for the full lineup of events. \nFree and Open to All Ages | October 17 begins at 12pm | RSVP Coming Soon \nPlease note: Anh Vo’s work-in-progress showing\, A Sign\, a signal\, a delivery\, a deliverance\, planned for September 26 has been canceled due to inclement weather. \n\nAbout The Arts Center Residency \nThe 2026 Arts Center Residency cohort includes 18 artists\, one On-Site Assistant\, and\, for the first time\, two Scholars-in-Residence from Stony Brook University and an Organization-in-Residence: Seaweed City. \nActivations: \nNicole Cooper\, Mapping Our Climate Emotions\nOur emotions about climate are real\, valid\, and worth sharing. “Mapping Our Climate Emotions” is an interactive studio installation inviting you to explore and express how you’re feeling about our changing planet. Using a climate emotions wheel\, colored notecards\, and string\, you’ll add your feelings to a growing collective map—creating a living portrait of our shared climate experience. No art experience necessary. Just bring your feelings and see where they land.\n \nGarrett Allen\, temperature theater 01\ntemperature theater 01 is a performance experiment in heat\, pressure\, duration\, and cause and effect. A temperature becomes a psychophysical agent\, an environment\, a condition. The work considers the body as a site of climate\, coping\, and consequence. How do we experience change? How does how we handle change change what we experience? \nTanika Williams\, Black Ecologies v. 2: The Field Trip\nBlack Ecologies v. 2: The Field Trip: dream\, design\, and build speculative climate futures with Black Interactive. This day-long event features guided meditation and design-build workshops\, including collaging\, zine-making\, AR animation\, and architectural modeling\n \nSari Nordman\, Anxiety Boutique Activation Dance\nThis activation invites viewers to imagine climate extremes and learn more about the story behind the Anxiety Boutique. \nLisa Ann Schonberg\, The Insects are Present\nA work-in-progress listening experience based on Lisa’s sonic research on the rich compost habitats at Earth Matter on Governor’s Island\, of pollinators at the Lavender Field\, and of ants making their homes under walkways. The Insects are Present is a public installation of a modular\, generative composition system of recording\, processing and playback that prompts interactions between real-time environmental sounds\, human messages\, and Schonberg’s percussion\, with a focus on hidden soundscapes of insects and other invertebrates.\n \nRachel Garber Cole\, My Family Photos\nPlease come and use my family photos to tell me stories from your own life. It will be fun and you can voyeur into someone else’s life while I try and voyeur into yours!
