SUMMARY:2023 Exhibition Season at The Arts Center at Governors Island!
DESCRIPTION:The Arts Center at Governors Island is now open from May 6-October 1\, 2023! \nExhibitions at The Arts Center explore a range of ideas and media with an emphasis on site-specific projects that take the Art Center’s unique location into consideration. Special events take place throughout the Summer in conjunction with each of three annual exhibitions\, including artist talks\, workshops\, and The Take Care Series. \nThe 2023 exhibition season takes inspiration from LMCC’s long history as a supporter of the arts through the theme of the passage of time. Each exhibition offers different perspectives on the ways in which artists respond to ideas about time such as personal history\, the legacies of activism\, objects we collect\, intergenerational relationships\, and more. \nAll exhibitions and events at The Arts Center are free and open to the public\, and all are welcome. \nLearn more about the 2023 exhibition season here!

Using the short entries as inspiration\, Fornés shaped the diary into a piece of dance-theater that explores the physical cost of women’s domestic labor and the surprising possibilities for mental and spiritual escape. This first-ever revival of Evelyn Brown (A Diary)\, unearths a lost work by the celebrated playwright María Irene Fornés (1930–2018). Directed by Alice Reagan\, the production will feature scenic designs by Donald Eastman who designed the original 1980 production. \nFind more information at https://www.lamama.org/shows/evelyn-brown-a-diary-2023 \nGrant Program: Creative Engagement \n— \nThe India Center\nIndia Unleashed – NYCXDESIGN FESTIVAL RECEPTION\nSaturday\, May 20\, 2023 at 5:00 PM; May 21-23\, 2023 at 6:00 PM\nSolas Studio\, 117 East 24th Street\, 2nd Floor\, New York\, NY 10010 \nCelebrate the 11th NYCXDESIGN FESTIVAL with The India Center and check out the artwork created by our amazing artists. \nFind more information at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/india-unleashed-nycxdesign-festival-opening-tickets-541987849247 \nGrant Program: Creative Engagement \n— \nNew Amsterdam Opera\, Inc\nLUCREZIA BORGIA\nSaturday\, May 20\, 2023 at 7:00 PM\nThe Center at West Park\, 165 West 86th Street\, New York\, NY 10024\nVenue entrance is on Amsterdam Avenue\, accessible entrance on W. 86th Street. \n“New Amsterdam Opera will present Donizetti’s LUCREZIA BORGIA on Saturday\, May 20\, 2023\, 7:00 PM\, at The Center at West Park.
