The exhibition reflects on the emotional\, social\, and political intersections of these disciplines\, addressing themes such as urban memory\, gentrification\, and the transformation of cultural identity. Through this cross-disciplinary dialogue\, the show invites audiences to consider how built environments can become vessels of resistance\, imagination\, and civic engagement. \nThis collective exhibition within the New York Latin American Art Triennial 2025 explores the dynamics between human experience and architectural space\, featuring artwork by work by Alejandra Rojas (Peru)\, Alessandro Valerio Zamora (Costa Rica)\, Álvaro Correa (Colombia)\, Antonio José Guzmán & Iva Jankovic (Panama)\, Carlos Llamas (Colombia)\, Cecilia Barreto (Mexico)\, Coco Mártin (Peru)\, Daniel Valladares (Honduras)\, García-Ordóñez (Colombia)\, Juliana Correa (Colombia)\, Natalia Mejía Murillo (Colombia)\, and Sabrina Merayo Nuñez (Argentina). \n\nAbout NYLAAT 2025 \nContemporary art and modern architecture arose from a shared aspiration: the moral and material reconstruction of societies scarred by conflict. Together\, they serve as powerful tools in shaping collective identity\, reinforcing the bond between urban spaces and their inhabitants. By merging artistic expression with architectural form\, NYLAAT 2025 reimagines environments that evoke emotional resonance\, community\, and cultural continuity—transcending mere function and technique. For generations\, artists have documented the shifting contours of cities and domestic life—capturing both the vitality and alienation of urban density. In recent decades\, creative discourse has expanded to address pressing global concerns: climate change\, gentrification\, migration\, and globalization. NYLAAT 2025 invites audiences to engage with these themes through a lens of Latin American innovation\, where art and architecture converge to reimagine the future. \n\nThe New York Latin Amer­i­can Art Tri­en­ni­al (NYLAAT) is ded­i­cat­ed to orga­niz­ing exhi­bi­tions of con­tem­po­rary art and cul­tur­al pro­gram­ming through which it seeks to pro­mote and enrich our Latin Amer­i­can cul­ture. DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets on EventbriteJoin us on December 20th\, 4:00pm at the Art Center at Governors Island for At the Altar\, Baye & Asa’s new duet and an exploration of cultural\, religious\, and political deities. \nWe ask these central questions: Who/what do we worship?  How do we worship? Who are the righteous? Who are the blasphemers? At the Altar reckons with the pitfalls of extreme idolatry and interrogates our collective struggle for survival and salvation. \nBaye & Asa is a company creating movement art projects directed & choreographed by Amadi ‘Baye’ Washington & Sam ‘Asa’ Pratt. They’ve presented their work at The Joyce Theater\, The Metropolitan Museum of Art\, La MaMa Experimental Theater Club\, Baryshnikov Arts Center\, Jacob’s Pillow\, Pioneer Works\, Guggenheim Works & Process\, The American Dance Festival\, and more. They were one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2022\, and were recipients of Dance Magazine’s 2023 Harkness Promise Award. They’ve created works for repertory companies including The Martha Graham Dance Company\, BODYTRAFFIC\, and Alvin Ailey II. \nCommissioned and development support provided by The Democracy Cycle\, a program of Perelman Performing Arts Center | PAC NYC and Civis Foundation. At the Altar is co-commissioned by ADF with support from the Doris Duke/SHS Foundations Award for New Works.
