The exhibition features artwork by Alejandra Rojas (Peru)\, Alessandro Valerio Zamora (Costa Rica)\, Álvaro Correa (Colombia)\, Antonio José Guzmán & Iva Jankovic (Panama)\, Carlos Llamas (Colombia)\, Cecilia Barreto (Mexico)\, Coco Mártin (Peru)\, Daniel Valladares (Honduras)\, García-Ordóñez (Colombia)\, Juliana Correa (Colombia)\, Natalia Mejía Murillo (Colombia)\, and Sabrina Merayo Nuñez (Argentina). Sensorial Fusion will be on view at The Arts Center at Governors Island November 8 through December 19\, 2025\, open to the public Friday-Sunday 12-6pm. \nNYLAAT 2025\nContemporary art and modern architecture arose from a shared aspiration: the moral and material reconstruction of societies scarred by conflict. Together\, they serve as powerful tools in shaping collective identity\, reinforcing the bond between urban spaces and their inhabitants. By merging artistic expression with architectural form\, NYLAAT 2025 reimagines environments that evoke emotional resonance\, community\, and cultural continuity—transcending mere function and technique. For generations\, artists have documented the shifting contours of cities and domestic life—capturing both the vitality and alienation of urban density. In recent decades\, creative discourse has expanded to address pressing global concerns: climate change\, gentrification\, migration\, and globalization. NYLAAT 2025 invites audiences to engage with these themes through a lens of Latin American innovation\, where art and architecture converge to reimagine the future. These exhi­bi­tions are intend­ed to pro­vide diverse edu­ca­tion­al pro­grams that allow a place to engage with con­tem­po­rary art expres­sions and inves­ti­gate a deep­er under­stand­ing of its role in soci­ety. NYLAAT believes in the fun­da­men­tal role of edu­ca­tion and advo­ca­cy through art and in the preser­va­tion of the artis­tic and his­toric cul­tur­al lega­cies of the Latin Amer­i­can and Caribbean region. DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Opening: Love Tapes by Wendy Clarke\n12-5pm\, Lower Gallery\, The Arts Center at Governors Island \nFirst exhibited as a part of LMCC’s World Views residency program in 1980 at the World Trade Center\, Love Tapes by Wendy Clarke is one of the earliest and actively ongoing projects that LMCC has supported. \nLove Tapes is a participatory video art project that has captured the ideas\, beliefs and stories about love from everyday people. For almost five decades\, Clarke has documented these intimate and vulnerable stories amassing a collection of over 2500 tapes. Each tape is a reminder of our shared humanity and that love unites us all. \nFor the 2024 exhibition season\, LMCC will present digitized archival footage of Love Tapes on our social media platforms and on site at the Arts Center at Governors Island. We will also explore themes of love through a series of public workshops that focus on this deep emotion through our environment\, music\, and machines. \nOpen Studios with the Arts Center Artists-in-Residence\n12-5pm\, Artist Studios\, The Arts Center at Governors Island \nJoin us for the culminating Open Studios of LMCC’s Session 1 Arts Center Residency! DESCRIPTION:The Arts Center at Governors Island is now open from May 6-October 1\, 2023! \nExhibitions at The Arts Center explore a range of ideas and media with an emphasis on site-specific projects that take the Art Center’s unique location into consideration. Special events take place throughout the Summer in conjunction with each of three annual exhibitions\, including artist talks\, workshops\, and The Take Care Series. \nThe 2023 exhibition season takes inspiration from LMCC’s long history as a supporter of the arts through the theme of the passage of time.
