Since our founding, LMCC has been working at the intersection of cultural, economic, and community development, and The LMCC Arts Center is conceived as the embodiment and celebration of that core mission.
Just a short ferry ride from Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, The LMCC Arts Center is located on Governors Island. A 40,000SF, 19th century warehouse refurbished and redesigned for 21st century artists, it will offer a broad range of exhibitions, performances, presentations, residencies, and engagement programs.
As an artist residency facility, The LMCC Arts Center will support research, the creation of new work, and will operate as an incubator for a myriad of art forms.
Matching artists with the right space, training, networks and resources within a vibrant, public-facing facility, the Arts Center models a holistic approach to artist support that expands upon LMCC’s decades-long commitment to artists.
As a presenting space, it will showcase site-specific works by leading artists inspired by the island’s environment, as well as talks, workshops, conversations, and art-making, all with the intent of offering public audiences new ways of thinking and practicing creativity.
The LMCC Arts Center will welcome a cross-section of local, national, and international artists and visitors alike, including art-lovers, day-trippers, tourists, and families, providing adventurous and accessible cultural programming and experiences.
