Syma is a New York-based artist who grew up outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Inspired by ancient artifacts and mythologies, Syma creates interactive/conceptual clay sculptures and vessels in response to personal life events, wishes, and dreams. Her large scale sculpted panels are permanently installed on walls of public and private buildings in the US and UK and her ceramic jewelry has been featured at London’s Lesley Craze Gallery.
Her exhibitions include Employee Art Show, Met Museum, NYC (2017); Holiday Bazaar (group invitational), Carter Burden Gallery, NYC (2017); National Ceramics Exhibition: (Award: Hon. Mention); BWAC Galleries, Brooklyn (2016), International Triennial of Silicate Arts, Cifra Palota Gallery, Kecskemét, Hungary (2011); and Invitational Jewelry Exhibition (group), Lesley Craze Gallery, London, UK. Her awards and residencies include SU-CASA, LMCC, New York (2017); Haystack Open Studio Residency Award, Deer Isle, Maine (2016); MCAF, LMCC, New York (2012); MAD Museum Studio Residency, New York (2010); and MAD Museum Studio Residency, New York (2006).
She received her B.S. in Psychology and Art from the University of Pittsburgh and took self-selected art courses and workshops in New York, New England, and UK.
