Yijun Liao is a New York-based artist born in Shanghai. She is a fine art photographer. Her solo exhibitions include Memphis, Tennessee, Chinese American Arts Council, NYC (2011); and Experimental Relationship, Adam Shaw Gallery, Memphis, TN (2008). Her group exhibitions include Span of Vision, VT Art Salon, Taipei, Taiwan (2012); Song of Ordinary Madness, The Running Horse, Beirut, Lebanon (2012); ITS#PHOTO, International Talent Support, Trieste, Italy (2011); Making the Leap: Crossing Borders, A.I.R Gallery, Brooklyn (2010); and Irrelevant: Local Emerging Asian Artists Who Don’t Make Work About Being Asian, Arario Gallery, NYC (2010).
Liao was awarded residencies by The Camera Club of New York (2010) and The Center of Photography at Woodstock (2010). She was a Selected Winner of the Magenta Foundation’s Flash Forward Emerging Photographers exchange (2011), a Finalist for the International Talent Support ITS#PHOTO competition (2011), and Winner of the Jen Bekman Gallery’s Hey, Hot Shot! International Photography Competition (2008). Publications include Artco Monthly (2012), Numéro China (2011), O.K. PERIODICALS (2011), Village Voice (2010), and Computer Arts (China) (2008). She received her M.F.A. from the University of Memphis.
