Tyehimba Jess is a Brooklyn-based writer born in Detroit, MI. He is a practicing poet who explores the intersections of race, history, art, and music. Jess’s works include Leadbelly, book, (2005).
Jess’s awards and residencies include Lannan Foundation Marfa Residency (2007); Whiting Award in Poetry (2006); National Endowment for the Arts Grant (2005); and National Poetry Series Award (2004). He received his B.A. from University of Chicago and M.F.A. in Poetry from NYU.
