Sunghee Pae received a B.F.A. degree from Hongik University in Seoul, Korea and an M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design (2008). She participated in the Mentoring Program for Immigrant Artists of New York Foundation for the Arts in 2009. She was a recipient of a Full Fellowship Award to the Vermont Studio Center in 2008, and the Graduate Award of Excellence at Rhode Island School of Design in 2007.

Sunghee Pae’s work redefines the urban landscape as an ideal place. Inspired by architectural designs in public spaces, she engages a constant duality that exists within modern society, most specifically through utopic and dystopic narratives. During her Swing Space residency, Pae will be working on Urban Park, a site-specific installation encompassing her entire studio. The mixed media installation will be made of architectural models of trees, grasses, and signs, rendering urban public spaces.
