Stefanie Batten Bland is the Choreographic Artist and Artistic Director of Company Stefanie Batten Bland (Company SBB). Company SBB, formed in 2008, is an inter-continental dance theatre company that blurs physical definitions to create fully orchestrated worlds rooted in community, highlighting the vivid threads that sew us to one another as people and to our planet. Based in New York since 2011, the Company was originally founded in France. Its immersive pieces for proscenium or non-traditional spaces have been performed globally, both inside and out of the dance world. Company SBB reaches a diverse audience using malleable performance modules for various platforms including stage, film and alternative frameworks. Awards and fellowships include Jerome Robbins Award (2016); Bessie Schonberg Choreography Fellow at The Yard (2016); Kevin Spacey Foundation Artist’s Choice Award (2015); Alvin Ailey Foundation New Direction Choreography Fellow (2014, 2015); Joffrey Ballet Choreographer of Color (2014); and the Baryshnikov Arts Center & Jerome Robbins Foundation NEW Fellow (2012-2012).
