Ruth Marshall is a Bronx-based artist, who was born in Melbourne, Australia. Her works centers on researching specimens from museums and zoos and then interpreting, designing and hand knitting faux pelt textiles of endangered animals using intricate intarsia and Fair Isle techniques. Her solo exhibitions include Closely Knit: A Textile Analysis of Animals, The Arsenal, New York, NY (2014) and Vanished Into Stiches, The National Wool Museum, Geelong, Australia (2014). She received the BRIO Award from the Bronx Council for the Arts in 2013 and 2007. She was an artist-in residence at Stuhltrager Gallery, Berlin, Germany (2011); the Wave Hill Cultural Center, Bronx, New York, NY (2011); and the Montsalvat Artists Colony, Melbourne, Australia (2011). Marshall received a B.F.A. from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and an M.F.A. from Pratt Institute.
