Founded in 1984, The Russian Chamber Chorus of New York (RCCNY) is a New York-based semi-professional chorus that has become one of America’s preeminent Russian vocal ensembles and a highly admired ambassador of the Russian creative spirit. Under the founder and Artistic Director Nikolai Kachanov’s leadership, RCCNY is known for stylistic versatility, richness of sound, fine tuning, and subtlety of expression.

RCCNY’s mission is to build a bridge between the Russian choral tradition and today’s American audiences, at a high level of artistic achievement. RCCNY focuses on major composers from Russia and Eastern Europe whose works are well known abroad but unfamiliar in America and is accomplished through Maestro Kachanov’s passionate leadership, personal knowledge of Russian choral literature, design of stunning programs, ability to attract talented artists, and special emphasis on vocal technique. RCCNY combines the precision of the American choral tradition with the expressiveness of the Russian choral tradition. Their works include Shakespeare and Pushkin in Choral Music (2017) and Stories Spoken and Unspoken: Vocalises and Folk Songs (2017).
