Rus was a writer, performer, and video editor and when the economy slumped in 2008 he took a day job working for a tax preparer. Learning that he was doing his own taxes poorly, he began telling friends what he learned. It became his venue to help people who weren’t rich and didn’t have simple work lives to get good service at a fair price. Brass Taxes also uses the opportunity of doing taxes to help lower anxiety about money in general by letting people know what they need to worry about and what they don’t. Brass Taxes now serves thousands of people a year in person in Brooklyn and over Skype around the country…and world…but mostly in Brooklyn and LA. Rus still performs improv comedy.
