Rite of Summer (ROS) presents admission-free outdoor concerts on Governors Island featuring classical and contemporary works performed by New York’s top soloists and ensembles. Visitors are exposed to a high level of virtuosity and varied repertoire from the moment they arrive on the island until reaching the shaded grassy “concert hall” in Nolan Park. Concerts occur on a monthly basis, May-August. This off-season model not only supplements the dormant summertime performing arts calendar but also coincides with peak visitation at Governors Island.
