Riitta Ikonen is a New York-based artist from Finland. She is a collaborative artist who works mainly with photographers and costumes for communicative purposes.
Ikonen’s solo exhibitions include POST Mail Art, Christopher Henry Gallery, NY (2012) and Eyes as Big as Plates, with Karoline Hjorth, the Finnish Norwegian Cultural Institute, Oslo, Norway (2012). Group exhibitions include Bird and Leaf, Anthill, Eyes as Big as Plates, and Snowflake at Seibu, Shibuya, Tokyo (2012); and Camouflage at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki, (2012). Ikonen has been featured nationally and internationally in National Galeriet, a Norwegian national television art show (2012) and RCA Secret on BBC. Her residencies include Recess “Session” Residency in Redhook, NY (2012).
Ikonen received her B.A. from the University of Brighton in England and her M.A. from the Royal College of Art in England. During her SPARC residency, Ikonen will work at the City Hall Senior Center in Manhattan with Alison Kuo, Yue Lin, and Karoline Hjorth, among others.
