“As seen in the New Yorker and New York Times Weekend section, this is the perfect mom’s night out–or date night–or best of all, somewhere you can bring your whole book club, that you don’t have to prepare in advance!!” – MOMMY POPPINS, Tuesday, Nov 9, 2010.
Pen Parentis is New York-based organization that provides critical resources to writers to help them stay on creative track after they start a family. The organization builds and supports in-person and online communities of authors who are also parents to encourage production of high-quality written work, and offers individual aid to writers whenever possible, extending its reach through partnerships with organizations who host activities that support creative writing.
The organization enables writers who are parents to thrive in their creative careers by ensuring that the writing world values the creative efforts of writing parents and does not marginalize them, inclusively embracing parents of every gender, sexuality, religion, race, etc – and writers of every genre. Inclusion is one of the organization’s core values, alongside Community, Professionalism, Discipline, and Compassion. The reach of Pen Parentis is global and features unique parenting-and-writing resources including an annual Writing Fellowship, a bicoastal series of Literary Salons, publicly available interviews with successful parent-writers, and a data-driven research project which will culminate in a book about the best practices of writers who are also parents.
