Momenta Quartet (2004) is a New York-based quartet that aims to bring the best of contemporary music to audiences in New York City and around the world. Their vision of new music embraces composers from all cultures and from diverse musical backgrounds. Momenta Quartet devotes 80% of its programming to living composers, the majority of whom are emerging or underrepresented in the New York new music scene.
Deeply committed to cultivating new audiences for new music, they reach out to the community through thought-provoking concert programs at affordable ticket prices, informal preconcert talks, panel discussions with composers, open rehearsals, workshops for children and students, live streamed concerts and intimate salon concerts. Momenta has performed at multiple prestigious venues, such as the Library of Congress, National Gallery of Art, Rubin Museum, SUNY Binghamton, Harvard, Brown, Temple, Cornell and Yeshiva Universities, Performing Indonesia Festival, Smithsonian Freer Gallery; a self-produced four-concert festival at Tenri, The Americas Society, The Japan Society, and the Cervantino Festival in Mexico. Their awards include major commission grants from the Koussevitzky and Jerome Foundations. Momenta Quartet’s debut album is titled Similar Motion.
