“Bach’s vast choral output was highlighted with cantatas, including some well sung by the Melodia Women’s Choir of NYC.” – The New York Times, May 22, 2008, Vivien Schweitzer
Melodia Women’s Choir, founded in 2003, is a New York-based organization with a mission to explore, perform, and promote women’s choral music including classical, contemporary and premiere works. The Choir’s goal is to bring high level performances of beautiful and diverse repertoire for women’s choir out into the world as widely as possible. It consists of 30 auditioned singers from diverse backgrounds and a roster of high level, professional women instrumental musicians who join them for concerts. Melodia’s season includes six seasonal concert programs in NYC. Melodia Women’s Choir has been broadcasted on WQXR’s 24 Hours of Emerging Women Composers (2014). They have also produced a Lullaby CD which was released in Fall 2014. In 2015, Melodia developed a collaborative partnership with Vox Nova Girls Choir of the Special Music School. Programs include participation in free community outreach events including Women’s History Month Celebrations sponsored by the NYC Comptroller and free concerts at Queens Library and Queens Museum of Art.
