Mallory Catlett is a director and dramaturge living in NYC where she works closely with a handful of ensembles including Latitude 14, Banana Bag & Bodice and the Juggernaut Theatre Company. Their work has been seen at HERE Arts Center, The Chocolate Factory, The Ontological-Hysteric Theater, PS122, and The Collapsible Hole; been featured at CultureMart, COIL and Prelude Festivals and has toured to Canada, Europe and the UK. Funding for these projects has come from NYS Council for the Humanities, The NY Music Fund, NYSCA, Chashama, LMCC, Abrons Arts Center, The Puffin Foundation, Digital Performance Institute, Edith Lutyens & Bel Geddes, Tobin Theatre Fund, Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, Strickland Family Fund, The NYSCA Individual Artist Commission, The Canada Council for the Arts, The British Columbia Arts Council, The Hamber Foundation, ArtsFact, Greenwall Foundation, MAP Fund and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
Mallory is also the Artistic Director of Restless Productions NYC – a nascent production company designed to excavate the classical cannon in the generation of inventive, immediate, contemporary works of performance. The company’s short history began with a site-specific production of As You Like It, set in an empty building and performed by group of squatters. Location based development and production exemplifies the mission of Restless Productions NYC, which is, to bring the cannon into more direct and intimate contact with the audience and the city.
During their LMCC Swing Space residency, Restless Productions NYC will be developing a production of Shakespeare’s Richard II for three men. Particular attention will be paid to narcissism as a theme, not as myth or philosophy, but as the structure of an experience that bends toward self-destruction.
