Louise Barry is an artist who has worked in drawing, collage, and installation, primarily creating drawings based on found images and text. She has been awarded residencies at Artists Alliance Rotating Studio Program and the Contemporary Artists Center in Troy, NY. She is also the recipient of a BRIC Media Arts Fellowship and has exhibited her work in venues throughout the Northeast, including Cuchifritos in NY, the Carriage House at the Islip Art Museum in East Islip, and Rabbithole Studio and The Invisible Dog in Brooklyn. Barry received a B.A. from Smith College in 2004 and an M.F.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 2006. Much of Barry’s work concerns the relationship between images and the past they represent, both distant and recent.
During the Swing Space residency, Barry will continue to work on a series of drawings using borrowed images of iconic American landscapes and narratives of travel and exploration. These images are chosen not for their specific references, but for their ability to remind us of popular myths and ideals.
