“Gentrification may have erased the Loisaida of the past when it was truly multi-ethnic and brought together Puerto Ricans, Argentines, Cubans, Eastern Europeans Jews, but organizations like Loisaida Inc. are making sure it doesn’t go forgotten. The 29th Loisada Fest will pay homage …” – Remezcla, May 26, 2016, Yara Simon

Loisaida, Inc. is a New York-based organization that serves as a downtown platform to address social disenfranchisement of low-income Latino residents. This is achieved through education opportunities, youth development initiatives, and neighborhood activities that positively highlight the rich culture, heritage, and contributions of Puerto Rican and Latin American communities in New York City. Devoted to collaborative art practices, social engagement, and community building through culture, its approach celebrates the urban surroundings, grassroots invention and immigrant spirit of the Loisaida neighborhood. Loisaida, Inc. offers programming that meets the demands of the neighborhood’s changing demographics and builds a connection between community, learners, artists, and scholars through affordable education opportunities in cultural fields, S.T.E.A.M. design, and everyday life. One notable example of its programs, the Loisaida Festival, started in 1987, has produced the largest outdoor cultural community celebration in the Lower East Side.
