‘…an irreverent, rough-edged, yet oddly cultivated style.’ – The New Yorker, Sept. 18, 2012, Russell Platt
Since their founding in 2008, loadbang’s unique lung-powered instrumentation (bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone, baritone voice) has resulted in a stylistic palette ranging from whistled Brazilian rhythms and microtonal jazz standards to the decoupled and deconstructed sounds of the second modernity. loadbang’s mission is to commission new works, write works for the ensemble, and develop a unique language of improvisation. loadbang believes in the receptivity of children to experimental art and is committed to bringing uncompromising sounds to young ears through outreach programs. loadbang has been presented by Symphony Space; Miller Theater; Da Camera of Houston; Rothko Chapel; MATA; The Festival of New American Music, Sacramento State University; China-ASEAN Music Week, Nanning, China; and the Avant Music Festival. They can be heard on a 2012 release of the music by John Cage, Avant Media Records; a release by Andy Kozar, ANALOG Arts Records (2013); Monodramas, ANALOG Arts Records (2014); and Lungpowered, New Focus Records (2015). loadbang has premiered more than 200 works by Pulitzer Prize winners Charles Wuorinen and David Lang, Guggenheim Fellowship winner Alex Mincek, Eve Beglarian, Reiko Füting, Andy Akiho and Alexandre Lunsqui, who were commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, and many others.
