Lena Bergendahl is a Stockholm-based artist working mainly with video and light installation. Her solo exhibitions include Woodland, Vita Kuben, Umeå, Sweden (2012); The Celestial Equator, Minibar Artist Space, Stockholm, Sweden (2012); and Applied Theories of Expanding Minds, Makerere Gallery, Kampala, Uganda (2011). Group exhibitions include Melancholy in Progress, Hong-Gah Museum, Taiwan (2012); Deep Into Sweden, Art Center Novosibirisk, Russia, (2012); and So you say, Westspace, Melbourne, Australia (2012). Bergendahl was awarded the Helge Ax:son Johnson Grant (2012), the “Project grant” through the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (2012), and the Byggnads Culture Grant (2011). Bergendahl received her M.F.A. from The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. While in residency on Governors Island, Bergendahl will work with a site-specific project that has the objective of investigating the history of seeing and representation as well as the intersection between virtual image and reality.
