Lars Jan is a New York and Los Angeles-based artist. He is the founder and artistic director of Early Morning Opera, a performance and art lab. Jan, several principal artists, and an ever expanding group of collaborators develop genre-bending performance and installation works exhibiting an ongoing interest in emerging technologies, dimensionalized media, live audiences, and unclassifiable experience. His performances include ABACUS, Sundance Film Festival (2012); REDCAT (2012); and A Suicide Bombing By Invitation Only, The Whitney Museum of American Art (2010).
Jan’s awards and residencies include TED Senior Fellow, New York, NY (2013); TED Global Fellow, New York, NY (2011); MAP Fund grant, New York, NY (2012); MacDowell Fellow, Peterborough, NH (2010); and Sherwood Award New York, NY (2008). He received his B.A. from Swarthmore College and M.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts.
