Jong Oh (b.1981) is a New York and Seoul based artist from Nouadhibou, Mauritania. His work, lacking any solid ground of culture, explores the vagueness and delicacy of perception. Oh’s solo exhibitions include Between Two Doors, Marc Straus LLC, New York City (2012). His group exhibitions include The Itinerary of Mobility and Translation, Korean Cultural Service, New York City (2012); Divided by Zero, Artgate Gallery, New York City (2012); and First Look III Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Peekskill (2011).
Oh has been awarded a residency by Arts Council Korea (2012). Publications include The Brooklyn Rail, Art in Culture, and The New York Times. Oh received his M.F.A. from The School of Visual Arts and his B.F.A. from Hongik University.
During his Swing Space residency at Governors Island, Oh will break from his previous work in which he delicately and silently responded to inner spaces, instead responding to the outer spaces in this project.
